(KNZA)--A ribbon cutting ceremony and public open house for the new Holton Elementary School will take place Sunday afternoon.
The ceremony will begin at 3:00 at the school located at 812 West 5th Street in Holton.
Following the ceremony, which will feature several speakers and the Holton High School band, the public will have a chance to tour the new school until 5:30.
Holton USD 336 voters in May 2014 approved a $21.5 million bond issue to fund construction of the more than 78,000-square-foot school which replaces the Colorado and Central elementary schools.
Groundbreaking for the new school took place in April of last year, and students began attending classes in the new building this August even though some finishing work remained.
