USD 335 to Hold Public Forum
10/19/2016

(KNZA)--The Jackson Heights USD 335 Board of Education will hold a public forum Thursday evening on a proposal to add baseball and softball at the high school.

The forum will take place at 8:00 in the Jackson Heights High School band room.

According to the district’s web site, the purpose of the forum is to share information that the board and administration have reviewed on adding the two sports and give patrons an opportunity to share input with the board.

First-year costs  have been estimated at nearly $15,000 for adding baseball and $14,000 for adding softball, based on a 25-person roster for each team.  After that, the yearly cost has been estimated at nearly $10,000 for baseball and nearly $9,500 for softball.

Games would be played at the Netawaka Athletic Club starting in the spring of 2018 if the programs were added.

Currently, Jackson Heights is one of three schools in the Northeast Kansas League that does not offer baseball or softball programs.  Horton and Jeff Co North are the other two.
