(KNZA)--An Atchison man convicted on charges in connection with a March 2015 three-county chase has been sentenced to more than 3 years in prison.
25-year-old Ryan Brownfield was sentenced Friday in Jackson County District Court to 39-months in prison on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
Brownfield will be required to register as a violent offender after his prison sentence is completed.
He pleaded no contest to the charges last month. Brownfield had originally been charged with four counts—including attempted second-degree murder.
Authorities say the chase began March 12th of last year in Atchison County after a deputy attempted to stop a SUV that was later found to have been stolen from an Atchison dealership. The chase crossed into Jefferson County and then later into Jackson County. Authorities say Brownfield attempted to strike a Jackson County deputy who was on foot with the stolen vehicle before heading back into Jefferson County, where the chase ended.
