Axtell Student Statewide Winner in Poster Contest

(KMZA)--An Axtell student is a statewide winner in the Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest.  Heidi Wolfgang reports..

The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced that Sierra de Koning is among two winners in the contest.

Each student was first selected as a regional winner and will receive a bicycle and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas at presentations at their schools.

A total of 824 Kansas kids ages 5 to 13 participated.

De Koning was then chosen as the statewide winner in her age category.

She will also receive a $50 gift card from the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas, movie passes from AAA Kansas and family packages two Topeka attractions—the Capitol Plaza Hotel/Kansas Children’s Discovery Center and Topeka Zoo
.
Several state and national organizations work together on the safety campaign.

Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
