(KAIR)--An investigation is launched following the discovery of a suspicious vehicle fire that occurred Thursday.
“It was shortly after 10:00 p.m. when police and fire personnel were sent to a vehicle fire that was occurring in the 1000 block of South Sixth,” said Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson. “Upon arrival, a 1988 Dodge Caravan was found fully engulfed in fire. After extinguishing the fire, both departments began an investigation and it is likely an arson case that is under investigation.”
Wilson added the 31-year-old victim, who owned the vehicle, was not at home at the time of the fire.
“There’s a number of things we’re following up to investigate the case,” Wilson said. “There’s several leads we’re following as we did a neighborhood check, witnesses who may have been in the area, neighbors have been contacted and we’re continuing to follow up on additional information with that.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police department.
