(KAIR)--A social worker requires hospitalized treatment after she's attacked by a dog in Jackson County.
Sheriff Tim Morse says it happened Friday afternoon at 10810 J. Road, in rural Delia, when the victim was making a visit to that address. When she attempted to do so, she was attacked by the Presa Canario.
She was able to drive herself to the Potawatomi Tribal Fire Station, where she arrived around 1:30. From there, she was transported to a Topeka hospital, where Morse says she was last listed in serious but stable condition. Her name is not yet made public.
The Sheriff's Office responded to the southwestern Jackson County home where the attack happened, and impounded the dog. The owner was not home.
The investigative reports are being forwarded to the Jackson County Attorney's Office for a review.
According to Morse, the dog's owner is identified as Kevin McGillivary, who went to jail in April of 2016 for permitting a dangerous animal to be at large.
That stemmed from a November 24, 2014 incident when another Presa Canario he owned killed chickens south of McGillivary's residence. The owner of the chickens received minor injuries when attacked by the dog, which was shot, in self-defense by a responding Jackson County Deputy.
That dog survived, and was later removed from Jackson County by court order.
