“I wish you could’ve met my daughter, Kylie Brooke Jobe, and her boyfriend, Kyle Thornburg. Kylie was the light of my life, my best friend, beautiful and full of life,” said Barby Jobe of Wichita. “There are no words to describe the hole in my heart that can never be filled. On their way home, they became the innocent victims of a drunk driver.”
Amanda Horner of Topeka tells about a crash that occurred with her cousin, “just two houses down from where we started, she turned right and kept turning right. Going only approximately 10 mph, the car managed to jump the curb and head straight into a tree.” Crashes can happen anywhere, she stresses.
Jobe and Horner are two of 20 people sharing stories in the blog to help show why roadway safety is important. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx kicked off the series today.
The series is part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day safety efforts. New stories can be viewed each day until Oct. 10 at http://ksdotblog.blogspot.com/.
Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day focuses on all types of traffic safety, whether you are in a vehicle, on a bike, on a motorcycle or walking across the street, and encourages everyone to take extra safety precautions.
