08/18/2016

(KNZA)--12 years in prison.

KQ2-TV reports that was the sentence handed down Wednesday in a Buchanan County courtroom to a St. Joseph woman charged with striking and killing a pedestrian on I-229 in April.

25-year-old Jacey Grom pleaded guilty in late June to a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Authorities say she was driving under the influence and at a high rate of speed when she struck 24-year-old Corbin Watts.

Prosecutors say she had a blood alcohol level of .134 percent at the time and fled the scene after the accident.
