(KNZA)--A restraining order is issued regarding the plan to remove three of five Sac and Fox Tribal Council members.
That happened Saturday, with a tribal judge staying the removal of the three members who faced a recall petition.
The three are identified in the court document as Council Chairman Edmore Green, Vice-Chairman James Jensen and Treasurer Nancy Keller.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the temporary order concluded that the removal was in violation of the Constitution of the Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska.
That decision was made because the three members weren't provided a 15-day notice, a chance to present a defense, and no petition for removal was presented.
A hearing has been ordered to be held August 23rd.
The temporary order was issued the same day that the tribal council held its annual General Council Meeting in the Brown County community of Reserve.
On Tuesday evening, MSC Radio News anonymously received a letter dated August 16, and signed by Tribal Council Member at Large, Victoria Ramos.
In it, she seeks help from the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, requesting that the agency be in attendance during the hearing, while asserting her belief that the temporary order was filed illegally.
