Charges Dropped Against Accused Shooter

(KAIR)--Self defense was the reason behind an Atchison shooting that left a man, and his dog, injured in June.

That's the outcome of a review of the legal case by Atchison County Attorney Jerry Kuckelman.

He tells MSC News he has elected to not file charges against the accused shooter, Bryan Boldridge. “We've been reviewing the case, and after going through it thoroughly, we determined that Mr. Boldridge had been attacked by a pit bull, and that he fired five shots at the dog attempting to defend himself. One of those shots ricocheted and struck Mr. Seymore, but there was no intent to harm Mr. Seymore, it was a self-defense situation...I have declined prosecution in that case on those grounds.”

Injured in the shooting was Duane Seymore. The 25-year-old Atchison resident required hospitalized treatment after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

His dog was also shot, but survived after a local veterinarian provided treatment.

The shooting happened on the evening of June 3rd, at a residence in the 700 block of Washington Street.

Following the shooting, police were called to the scene and arrested the 42-year-old Boldridge, who originally faced a charge of aggravated battery.
