(KAIR)--The Atchison Fire Department has begun the annual Fire Hydrant Inspection program.
The testing happens each year to ensure that fire hydrants throughout the community are in proper working order.
As long as weather allows, crews will be flushing hydrants, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 each morning through 3:00 in the afternoon.
Maintenance will continue into October, if needed.
The flushing may result in brief periods of reduced water pressure, especially for those customers located in low pressure areas. Discolored water is also possible, with residents asked to run their water until it becomes clear. That should be done before drinking or doing laundry. Customers are also urged to refrain from washing white or light colored clothing during the flushing period.
