Doniphan Co Asked to Take Over State Highway
07/20/2016

(KNZA)--Doniphan County has been asked to take over a portion of a state highway in the county.

Representatives of the Kansas Department of Transportation met with the Doniphan County Commission Monday to discuss the county taking part in the State Route Removal Initiative.

Under the proposal, the state would turn over a 7-mile stretch of K-120 Highway from K-20 to the intersection of U.S.36 Highway.

In exchange for Doniphan County taking over and maintaining that portion of state highway, KDOT would make a one time payment in the amount of $1.4 million to the county.

The Commission took the request under consideration.
