(KNZA)--A lengthy investigation by the Hiawatha Police Department leads to the arrest of a Highland man on 14 counts of harassment by a telecommunications device.

55-year-old Gary Vigil was taken into custody Monday and booked into the Brown County Jail.

During the investigation, Police Chief John Defore says several search warrants were served.  As a result, he says investigators analyzed telephone records and conducted digital forensic exams.  A subsequent search of Vigil’s home led to his arrest.

Defore says the investigation uncovered numerous victims, both locally and nationwide.  He says the police department is currently working to contact the jurisdictions effected.

Defore credited the work of police investigator Mickey Gruber and Officer Beau Hasenohr in the investigation.

Vigil remains in the Brown County Jail, held on a $25,000 bond.
