(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Police Department is investigating a recent rash of bicycle thefts in town.
According to the Department’s Facebook page, the thefts are occurring most often between the Country View Apartments in the 200 block of East Miami Street and 9th Street on the north end of town.
Police Chief John Defore says they are asking all Hiawatha residents to keep a close eye on property. He says you should try to avoid leaving items unsecured laying out in view of the sidewalk and roadway where they can be easily taken.
Defore says his department is stepping up patrols and keeping a close eye out for these types of items that are often stolen.
