Area Communities to Hold 4th of July Celebrations

(MSC News)--Many area communities will hold Independence day celebrations this holiday weekend, depending on the weather.

Two area 4th of July celebration have been postponed because of the rainy forecast. The annual July Jubilee event that was planned at the Banner Creek Reservoir west of Holton Saturday night has been postponed to July 8th.   Also the Horton fireworks display that had been scheduled for Saturday night has been postponed to Monday.

Celebrations are planned Saturday in Highland and Seneca.

Everest, Hiawatha, Hoyt and Sabetha will hold their Independence Day celebrations Sunday, with fireworks at dusk.

Bern, Centralia, Robinson, Humboldt, Nebraska, Marysville and Troy plan a full day of activities Monday to celebrate the 4th of July. In addition, Atchison will hold their celebration at Warnock Lake.

Also included among the major ceremonies is the traditional celebration at Fort Leavenworth, with food, games and activities set to be held at Merritt Lake. 

Beginning at 4:00 on the afternoon of July 4th, musical entertainment will begin at 5:30 with Rock Machine, followed by the Salute to the Union at 8:30. 

The fireworks display, to close out the day, will begin at dusk. 

 According to information provided by Fort Leavenworth, all visitors can enter through the main gate at Grant Avenue beginning at 3:00, where security checks will be conducted.
