Large Feline Spotted In Jackson County

(MSC News)--The Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal Police Department Friday issued the following statement: 

On Thursday, December 17, 2015 the Potawatomi Tribal Police Department confirmed a large feline was in the area of 142nd and O roads. The Jackson County Game Warden and Kansas Department of Wildlife have been notified.

In the event this is a mountain lion:

• Do not approach the animal, immediately contact Potawatomi Tribal Dispatch at 785-966-3024.

• Do not intentionally hunt the animal.

• If the animal is posing an immediate threat to an individual or livestock it is permissible to take action to prevent harm or property damage. Should the mountain lion die in course of action the carcass must be submitted to the Kansas Department of Wildlife.
