(KAIR)--Children greeting Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were among the Sights and Sounds Saturday as the City of Atchison welcomed in the Spirit of Christmas.
A full day of activities, including carriage rides and little Christmas train rides, began early in downtown Atchison, leading up to the evening's grand finale, the annual Parade of Lights.
Prior to the parade, Mr. and Ms. Winter Wondeland were crowned, with event emcee Paul Komarek saying Elijah Ernzen, son of Angela Dugger and Mike Ernzen was named Mr. Winter Wonderland, while Karlee Buckley, daughter of Brandee Buckley, was named Ms. Winter Wonderland.
A wide variety of floats, divided, and judged, in the categories of family, business, and church/youth groups, wound their way through downtown Atchison as part of the parade of lights. Komarek says first place honors in the business division went to Highland Technical Center, First Steps took first in the church/youth category, while Ree Greenwood took the top prize in the family division.
Hundreds of spectators lined the streets of downtown Atchison as Grand Marshalls Sheila Antes and Noel Rueb led the more than 30 entries as part of the parade.
