New 2nd Judicial District Judge Appointed
12/04/2015

(KNZA)--A district judge vacancy has been filled in the 2nd Judicial District.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback Friday announced the appointment of Norbert Marek, Jr., of Westmoreland, to fill the vacancy created by the unexpected death of Judge Michael Ireland, of Holton, in August.

In making the appointment, Brownback said “ Marek' robust legal experience makes him highly qualified to serve the citizens of the 2nd District.”

Marek currently serves as Wabaunsee County Attorney and maintains a private law practice. He also has served as City Attorney and Municipal Judge for numerous communities in North Central Kansas. He is an honors graduate of Kansas State University and Washburn University School of Law.

Marek was among three finalists nominated to fill the vacancy.  The other two included Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller, of Holton, and Onaga City Attorney and Prosecutor Christopher Etzel, of Havensville.

The 2nd Judicial District includes Jackson, Jefferson, Pottawtomie and Wabaunsee Counties.
