(KAIR)--A rate hike is in store for City of Atchison water customers.
That issue is set to come before the City Commission when they meet Monday.
According to documents included with the agenda for the session, city staff is recommending two options for consideration, with a 4% or 5% rate increase being proposed.
According to a document drafted by City Finance Director Becky Anderson, the City, in the future, will be required to raise $3.1 million per year in revenue for wastewater operations and capital investments, which includes the mandated separation of the city's combined sewer overflow.
During this past summer's budget discussion, staff recommended four different water rate scenarios, with the Commission at that time indicating a desire to raise the rate as little as possible, while adopting a higher level of capital projects funding. Based on that decision, staff drafted the two ordinances of a 4% or 5% increase to be considered Monday.
Whichever increase is approved would become effective in 2016.
Monday's meeting will begin at 4:30 at Atchison City Hall.
