Grandfather of Young Crash Victim Has Criminal Past
11/28/2015

(MSC News)--The man that authorities say allowed his 8-year-old granddaughter to drive prior to a fatal crash that claimed her life has a lengthy criminal history.

That comes in the way of a report made by KCTV, revealing that among the past crimes of Saint Joseph resident Dennis Meers is a conviction as a persistent DUI offender.

No charges have been filed in connection to the Doniphan County crash that claimed the life of Cadence Orcutt.

Meers was hospitalized following the Sunday afternoon rollover wreck, that the Kansas Highway Patrol says happened near the intersection of 17th Road and Peck Road, in Doniphan County. The young Troy girl was behind the wheel of the car when she lost control, sending the vehicle down a hill.

The Patrol says Orcutt was not buckled up at the time of the fatal crash.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Patrol currently awaiting the findings of toxicology reports, which the TV station says could take weeks to receive.

Services for young Cadence will be Monday afternoon in Blair, with the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Troy in charge of the arrangements.
