11/19/2015

(KNZA)--A magnitude 4.7 earthquake that rattled northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas early Thursday was felt as far north as St. Joseph, Missouri.

KQ2-TV reports a number of St. Joseph residents felt the quake.

A dispatcher from the Doniphan County Sheriff's Department said she received one  overnight call from a Wathena resident who felt the tremor.

Facebook was active Thursday morning with posts about the quake, with residents from such areas as Hiawatha and Leavenworth saying they also felt the rumble.

According to the National Earthquake Information Center, the quake happened shortly after 1:40 and was centered about 8 miles southwest of Cherokee, Oklahoma.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake.

National Earthquake Information Center geophysicist Randy Baldwin says Oklahoma has seen more than 20 magnitude 4 quakes this year.
