(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Road and Bridge Department will be getting new digital radio’s to enhance their communications.

The County Commission Monday approved the purchase of 30 radios from Haug Communications of Seneca for a cost of nearly $22,000.

County Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum said the current radios are old and need replacing.

In other business, the Commission talked with the Jackson County Commission by phone about a bridge located on the Nemaha/Jackson County line on Y Road south of Wetmore that needs replaced.

The low bid from Reese Construction, of Scandia, came in at nearly $190,000 for an alternate design.  The engineer’s estimate for the project is $220,000.

Jackson County Commissioners will review the alternate design and contact the Nemaha County Commission when they’ve made a decison.

Nemaha County is responsible for 50 percent of the cost to replace the bridge
