Atchison Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest

(KAIR)--An Atchison man is facing drug related charges after a traffic stop in Atchison Saturday night.

Police Chief Mike Wilson says an officer stopped a vehicle, driven by 37-year-old Charles Vanpetten in the 1300 block of Kansas Avenue on a reckless driving report. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered what appeared to be cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun in Vanpetten's possession.

Wilson says “because of a statute that covers being under the influence of illegal drugs and being in possession of a firearm, makes that possession unlawful.”

Vanpetten was booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal possession of a weapon.
