USD 115 Board Hears Presentation on New State Assessments
11/16/2015

(KMZA)--The Nemaha Central USD 115 Board of Education this week heard a presentation on the new Kansas State Assessment tests which were implemented last school year.

Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School counselor and testing coordinator Laurie Niehues told the Board the final 2014-15 scores in English/language arts and math are scheduled to be released the end of November and the building report cards on December 8th.

Students’ scores will be sent home with the first semester grade cards. The building report cards will be posted on the Kansas State Department of Education website.

Niehues emphasized that the scoring on the new tests is much different than the previous assessment tests. There are now four instead of five performance levels in English/language arts and math plus questions change subject to the student’s correct answers. For the present time, scoring on the science test will be the same as was with the previous testing.

Niehues shared the spring 2016 testing window.  The Performance Tasks testing will take place February 16-March 10 and the machine scored tests will be given March 16-April 28.

In other business, Superintendent Darrel Kohlman reported he received two bids for repair and structural spray of the high school track.

The Board voted to accept the low bid submitted by Pro Track and Tennis, of Bennington, Nebraska, for just over $62,000.

The work will begin following track season next spring.
