Auburn City Council Votes to Continue Law Enforcement Contract
11/12/2015

(KLZA)-- The Auburn City Council has approved continuing the contract to have the Nemaha County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office provide law enforcement for the City.

For the next year the cost to the City will be $306,000, which is a $23,000 increase from last year.  Mayor Scott Kudrna noted the original contract for 5-years in reviewed annually. The first three years the City did not have to pay $10,000 for vehicle replacement after turning over all of the Auburn Police Department vehicles to the County.  The most the contract can go up is 10-percent per year.

Kudrna said the relationship with the Sheriff’s Department and County has been very good.

In other business Monday night a public hearing was conducted concerning the proposed proprietary budget for 2016 for the Auburn Board of Public Works.  No utility rate increases are anticipated for 2016.  Expenditures include a new water well, several vehicle replacements and some utility work in Johnson and changing over street lights in Brownville to LED lights.

Council members also approved the final payment of approximately $90,000 for the Longs Creek Trail and an agreement with the Nebraska Department of Roads to remove snow from approximately 8-miles of State Highway inside the city limits of Auburn at a cost to the City of $4,070.
