St. Joseph Standoff Ends With Arrest

(KAIR)--A 25-year-old man is in custody after an eight hour standoff with police in St. Joseph Tuesday night.

KQ2-TV reports the suspect barricaded himself inside the basement of a residence, located in the 2400 block of Olive Street, after police responded to a disturbance call at the scene just after 7:00. He told officers that he had a weapon, and a response team quickly set up a perimeter around the scene, keeping nearby residents out of the area.

The standoff ended 3:00 Wednesday morning when the suspect exited the home after a fire was started inside. Fire crews were available, and the blaze was quickly put out. 

The St. Joseph News Press reports the suspect, identified as David Worley, was arrested on a felony warrant out of Platte County, Missouri for burglary.  Charges are pending  in the standoff investigation.

Police confirm that at least one shot was fired during the standoff, though no officers were injured as a result.
