(KNZA)--A tradition of the Christmas season is fast approaching, as the19th Annual Jingle Bell Ride will hit the streets of Hiawatha on Sunday, November 15th.
The goal of the ride is to help the less fortunate children in Brown County experience the joy of Christmas, and volunteer Megan Brockhoff says that will happen through the effort of riders collecting gifts for giving. “Through the years, we've now built up to around 40 to 60 riders that participate in the event every year,” Brockhoff tells MSC News. “We ride around town to pick up gifts for families in need in Brown County that just need a little bit of help around Christmas.”
As the new unwrapped toys for children under the age of 18, as well as monetary gifts, are collected, special guests will be in attendance. “We'll have Miss Rodeo K-State and Miss Rodeo Junction City attending the ride, and we also have Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus down around the Courthouse for pictures. Donna Oldridge will be taking pictures for free if anybody want's pictures with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.”
Rider registration will begin at 11:00 on the south side of the Courthouse Square, followed by the beginning of festivities at noon.
A parade, at 1:00, will happen on Oregon Street prior to the riders beginning the collection of donated gifts.
The toys gathered will be distributed during the Christmas store, which will held December 11th from 9:00 to 5:00 in the basement of the Brown County Sheriff’s office.
Brockhoff says donations are still being accepted.
Last year, the Christmas Store served more than 300 children in Brown County.
