(KMZA)--Special honors for the talents of a 12-year-old girl, recognized during ceremonies Tuesday. Axtell elementary student Reagan de Koning has been named one of three northeast Kansas regional winners in the 2015 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest. She was also selected as a statewide winner in the competition, receiving recognition for the achievement during a school assembly presentation at the Axtell Public School. The talents of de Koning were awarded with a bicycle helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas, a family package from the Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas, and a $50 gift card from the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store. This is not the first time young Reagan has been named a winner in the poster contest, having earned regional and statewide honors in both 2011 and 2013. Her sister, Sierra, was first runner-up this year for regional honors, and did earn regional honors in 2011. Another sister, Adrian, was first runner-up for regional honors in the 8-10 year-old category this year. The poster contest, sponsored annually by numerous Kansas transportation organizations, is intended to bring awareness for the need to reduce fatalities on the nation's highways.
