Reverse Angle Parking To Be Tested In Atchison
11/09/2015

(KAIR)--The city of Atchison, in conjunction with Live Well, Live Atchison, is inviting residents to test their reverse angle parking skills during an event scheduled to take place this week.

Live Well, Live Atchison Executive Director Andrea Clements says the event is “just really kind of a pilot run. We want the community to come out and try reverse angle parking, see how easy it is, and that is also going to give us information to take to the City Commission if we do decide that this change needs to be made within the city.

Clements adds that there are several benefits to reverse angle parking such as “once you are in your spot in the reverse, you will be opening the door...children and passengers will be exiting onto the curb instead of onto the street. When you need to load your trunk, you are doing that from the curb instead of the street. That also makes it safer because the drivers will be pulling out from the front, and will be able to see the oncoming traffic.”

The event is scheduled to take place Thursday from 3:00pm-7:00pm in the 400 block of Commercial Street, in front of the Atchison YMCA.

Reverse angle parking was one of the recommendations made by nationally prominent walk and cycling expert Mark Fenton made during his recent visit to the city
