(KNZA)--Additional funding has been approved for the completion of a Hiawatha street improvement project.
At the request of City Administrator Mike Nichols, the City Commission Monday evening approved the expenditure of up to $9,000 to complete the Meyer East Addition project.
The funding will be used to fix a portion on Ottawa Street where the concrete ends and doesn’t match up perfectly with the existing asphalt. Nichols said too much was milled off, adding the issue wasn’t the contractor’s fault.
Work on street improvements in the Meyer East Addition, located behind the former Hiawatha Thriftway store, began in August.
City Public Works Director Dave Grimm Nichols says Phase 3 of the project was completed Monday and the 4th and final phase will begin in 21 days.
