(KLZA)-- With two firearm deer hunting seasons ahead, the Steamboat Trace trail will be closed from November 14-22 and again from January 1-15 during the two rifle hunting seasons.
Nemaha Natural Resources District officials close the entire 22 miles of the Steamboat Trace trail to all users, including hunters, during the rifle hunting seasons to protect the safety of those who would otherwise be on or near the trail. It should be emphasized that hunting and the possession of weapons is never allowed on the converted railroad right-of-way that stretches from just south of Nebraska City to just south of Brownville. Anyone found on the trail during the closures will be ticketed.
Signs are posted at all the trailheads and at major access points alerting visitors to the closures. For more information about the Steamboat Trace, contact the Nemaha NRD at 402-335-3325, check our website at www.nemahanrd.org, or find us on Facebook.
