(KNZA)--An Axtell elementary student is among the top three regional winners in a statewide poster contest.
The Kansas Department of Transportation in a news release names 12-year-old Reagan de Koning as a top three winner in the 2015 Put the Brakes On Fatalities Day poster contest.
As a regional winner de Koning receives a bicycle helmet courtesy of Safe Kids Kansas.
The other two regional winners are from Topeka and Olathe.
A total of more than 1,000 poster contest entries were received from across the state, with 18 students receiving regional honors while three received statewide honors.
Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
