Plans for Grain-Loading Rail Facility Advance
09/21/2015

(KMZA)--Plans for the construction of a grain-loading rail facility on the northwest edge of Frankfort are moving forward.

The Marysville Advocate reports representatives of Dorchester, Nebraska-based Farmer’s Cooperative met with the Marshall County Commission last week to request approval of a letter of support for the project.

The Commission unanimously approved the letter which will be sent to the Kansas Department of Agriculture as part of the co-op’s required paperwork for construction of the facility.  The facility is to be built about a half-mile west of K-99 on Tumbleweed road.

Commissioners were told construction of the multi-million dollar facility will begin soon and is expected to be completed by October.

The projects planners say the facility is expected to substantially increase the Frankfort area’s tax base, and create five to six full-time jobs. The newspaper reports the goal is help area farmers get better grain prices and widen their options for transporting products.

Farmer’s Cooperative of Dorchester currently owns grain-handling rail facilities in Hanover and in the Nebraska towns of Plymouth and Jansen.
