Downtown Auburn

(KLZA)-- The Auburn City Council Monday night approved a budget with a property tax levy of 44-cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The tax asking will amount to just over $623,000.

Mayor Scott Kudrna said that raises for city employees, some forced due to an increased minimum wage affected the budget for the new fiscal year. Pool employees and the wage scale for City Park employees and summer help will be getting raises. The city valuation increased 4-percent to $131,000,000.

The Auburn Council also approved a funding agreement with the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. The City provides the Chamber with $2,000 but also provides office space at City Hall and provides utilities to the Chamber.

Pat Engles, longtime member of the Auburn American Legion baseball program, presented a report to the Council on the lights at the Legion Baseball Field. Engles estimated $150,000 to $190,000 to replace the lights.  The field is part of the Nemaha County Fairgrounds, owned by the Fair Board. It has been funded by the Legion. Auburn High School is adding baseball next spring.  The City rec leagues do not use the field. No action was taken at this time.

Annual membership and dues for Southeast Nebraska Development District were approved along with the appointment of Amy Daily to the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department.
