(Hiawatha, KS)--The 15th Annual Songfest will be at Hiawatha's Fisher Center on the first Sunday in October.
Songfest is a night of food and entertainment, presented by the Hiawatha High School Headliners show choir.
Vocal Director Sarah Kleopfer said the event was initially planned by parents as a fund raiser to help defray the cost of costumes for Headliners students. The tradition has continued.
The activities start at 6 p.m. with a soup supper that features four types of homemade soup, homemade rolls and relishes. It is topped off by dessert. All of the food is made by Headliner parents and served by students.
Once the group is served, at about 7 p.m., the entertainment starts. The Headliners will perform several selections as a group and there will be individual and ensemble performances as well.
Last year, Headliners was opened to incoming freshman for try-outs and there are more than two dozen in this year’s group. They perform four concerts throughout the year, in addition to various contests. They also perform at seasonal events, such as the Walk of Trees and at the Brown County Courthouse.
Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased from any Headliner student or are available at the school office until Wednesday, Sept. 30. Contact HHS at 742-3312 for more information.
