(KNZA)--A Kansas City, Kansas man, accused of leading local authorities on a multi-county pursuit in October of 2013 that ended near Sabetha, pleads guilty to related charges. According to the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, 25-year-old John Michael Devosha on Tuesday pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of using a firearm in furtherance of carjacking.
The federal charges stem from Devosha pointing a gun at a woman and pushing her out of the driver's side door when stealing her car in Kansas City, Kansas on October 22nd, 2013. That came after he crashed a stolen pick-up truck, which he abandoned, and fled on foot to find another vehicle. Federal prosecutors say that's when he came across his victim, who was stalled in traffic congestion caused by the wreck of the pick-up.
The car Devosha is accused of driving during the local 45-mile pursuit three days later along U.S. Highway 75 is identified as the one stolen in Kansas City, Kansas.
Sentencing is set for November 2nd, with both sides agreeing to recommend a sentence of 180 months to run consecutively to a ten year sentence in connection with a previous federal case.
Among agencies commended by Grissom for playing a role in the apprehension of Devosha are Potawatomi Tribal Police, Holton, Sabetha, Kickapoo, and Sac and Fox Police, and the Sheriff's Offices of Brown, Jefferson and Jackson Counties.
