Humboldt Council Discusses Grants and Nuisances
08/20/2015

(KLZA)--  Humboldt City Council members met with Nuisance Code Enforcement Officer Rian Harkins Tuesday evening.  Harkins reported seven nuisance cases have been cleared, one case was given a 60-day extension and that six more nuisances have been declared.

The owners of the nuisance properties will be receiving notice to abate the nuisance or legal action will begin.

The Council also approved a request from the Humboldt Chamber to have a beer garden on the Saturday of the Richardson County Fair. It will be located on the south side of the square near the City Auditorium.

The Council also approved acceptance of a Sixpence grant through Southeast Nebraska Community Action for the purchase of playground equipment for the Humboldt City Square Park. SENCA will contribute $8,900 for the equipment and the City match will be $3,673. Council members also voted to seek bids to repair the cement deck around the swimming pool.

During a special Humboldt City Council meeting August 11th, Council members voted to approve acceptance of a $350,000 grant to go toward the renovation of the Humboldt City Auditorium.  The action had been tabled until research was conducted to make sure the Auditorium Board would have sufficient funding for the matching funds required. If not, the City is responsible for the match.

The grant will be awarded to the City in equal $175,000 installments.
