(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Board of Education has ratified a negotiated agreement with the Hiawatha Teachers Association for the 2015-16 school year.
Approval of the agreement followed an executive session during last week’s Board meeting.
Under the agreement, Superintendent Penny Hargrove says there will be no change in the base salary but moves teachers up the salary schedule.
The Hiawatha Elementary School will getting 100 new Learnpads. The board accepted a bid for the purchase of the devices for a total cost of nearly $46,000.
The purchase will bring the total number of Learnpads at the Elementary School to 225—allowing for 50 per grade level in the 1st-4th grades.
The Board also approved replacement of the roof on the industrial arts building that houses the woodworking and metal shops.
A bid of nearly $20,000 was accepted from Meridian Roofing of Topeka for the project.
The roof replacement project had been slated for next year, but is being moved up because the building has developed a leak which is feared could cause damage to the structure.
