Public Health Warning for Two Local Lakes
08/14/2015

(KNZA)-- Kansas health officials say a local lake has been placed on warning status again due to high levels of toxic blue-green algae.

The Brown County State Fishing Lake is among nine in the state under a public health warning. The Nemaha State Fishing Lake also remains on the list.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says activities like boating and fishing may be safe.  However, direct contact with the water is strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock.

Fish can be eaten as long as they are rinsed with clean water.  Consume only the fillet portion, and discard all other parts.
