(KAIR)--An Atchison woman, convicted of facilitating the sale of a controlled substance from her home, will spend a year and a half in prison for the crime.
53-year-old Brenda Castillo appeared in Atchison County District Court Friday morning for sentencing. She first requested a delay in the sentencing for medical reasons, but the judge denied her request, and sentenced her to eighteen months in prison on one count of felony possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute. Upon her release, she will be placed on two years of supervised probation.
Castillo and her daughter, 31-year-old Megan Billington, were arrested in October of last year after a police investigation determined they were selling the prescription drug oxycontin from their home.
Billington was sentenced in February to eighteen months in prison for her involvement in the crime.
