Falls City Crews Staying Busy During Summer
08/06/2015

(KLZA)-- Summer is a busy time for the various Falls City Utility Departments.

City Administrator Gary Jorn reported this week that a significant amount of work is being done on city property near the water plant south of Rulo. The work includes upgrades to the access road to the well field, tree removal from the drainage ditch and steps to improve drainage.

Jorn also reminded Council members that bids for the new water wells are expected to come before the Council for action in September. It has been a lengthy process and the bids were significantly higher than expected for the project.

Jorn also reported that on the days the Falls City Aquatic Center is open the average attendance is 221 persons. More than $41,850 in entry fees has been collected this season. The swimming season has been hampered this summer by early cool temperatures and a higher than normal amount of early closings and all day closings because of rain.

Jorn also said he had talked to the Herzog company about the overlay projects on Barada Street from 16th to 28th Street and the city parking lot east of Prichard Auditorium.  Rain has also caused them a lot of delays this summer. The new tentative date to begin the project in September 1. Mayor Jerry Oliver noted that the new fire rings are being installed at Stanton Lake Park.
