(KLZA)-- A good sized crowd turned out for a noon town hall meeting in Falls City Friday. Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts and First District State Senator Dan Watermeier from Syracuse both spoke to those gathered and answered questions from the audience.
Governor Ricketts has been in office seven months. He says that a key focus for his administration is to find ways to grow Nebraska by creating more and better jobs, keeping kids in the state and making Nebraska a place attractive for other people to make their home. Ricketts said to do that we must focus on becoming more competitive when it comes to taxes, making sure we are cutting through regulatory red tape and continuing to improve on our education opportunities.
Ricketts says he is attempting to bring things he learned in the private sector such as job descriptions, annual reviews, and measurements for each agency over to the state government. This will show if government is doing a good job and are things that have not previously existed in state government in Nebraska.
The audience asked questions about healthcare, property taxes, veterans benefits and ways to slow down school districts from levying high taxes on property.
