(KLZA()-- The Pawnee City Council voted Monday night to approve an ordinance on first reading to change all employees, including those previously salaried to hourly wages.
The Council was concerned about the amount of comp accrued by employees. Those concerns included the financial hit the City might face when an employee retires and has to be paid for time built over the years at various wage steps being paid at the highest step when that employee retired. Following the discussion, the ordinance to change the pay was approved. The ordinance must pass three readings to be adopted. Once adopted, the City will pay the employees with comp time on the books for that comp time, allowing for the funds in the next city budget.
The Council also reviewed the Employee Handbook that will need to be amended due to the changes regarding comp time.
