(KNZA)--If you're a resident of Jackson County and receive a phone call from Deputy Sergeant Bradley, don't provide any personal information. Instead, hang up and report the call to law enforcement.
That word comes from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, which says the so-called Deputy Bradley is a fake who tells the person called that a warrant has been issued for their arrest or that the person missed jury duty and will be arrested. The dubious deputy then provides a phone number that, when called, is answered by a woman claiming to work for the Jackson County Sheriff's Warrant Division and provides the Sheriff's Office address as proof. Callers have also been told to wire $1,000 or more, to a Texas location.
Jackson County authorities say all of the claims made by the caller are false. Also false is the phone number that shows up on the caller I.D. of the would be victim. It appears to originate with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, but is believed to be a case of spoofing, which means the actual phone number is coming from somewhere else but changed with technology to show otherwise.
The Sheriff's Office says the calls go against the procedures used by the agency, and those who receive such calls should notify authorities at (785) 364-2251.
