(KNZA)--A Lansing Correctional Facility inmate has pleaded no contest to escaping from the prison last year.
The Leavenworth Times reports 53-year-old Ronald Emons entered the plea Wednesday in Leavenworth County District Court to a charge of aggravated escape from custody.
Emons walked away from the prison grounds while part of an outside work crew on July 7th of last year At the time, he was in minimum security custody. Emons was apprehended a few hours later at the front of Fort Leavenworth.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 5th.
Emons was convicted in 2010 in Atchison County of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child between the ages of 14 and 16.
He initially was placed on probation for the crime but was transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections after he violated probation.
Emons later was paroled but returned to the DOC custody after violating parole.
He currently is in maximum security custody at the Lansing facility.
