(KLZA)-- Richardson County Commissioners met with Sheriff Don Pounds Tuesday to discuss the current budget for the Richardson County Jail and the Humboldt Law Enforcement Contract.
The Jail budget of expenditures will exceed the allotted budget amount for the current fiscal year ending June 30th by approximately $64,500 and the Humboldt Law Enforcement Budget will be approximately $1,825 over the budgeted amount.
Discussion on the Jail budget centered on expenses incurred due to boarding prisoners outside of the Richardson County Jail due to special detention requirements and an overage on the inmates needs for medical attention. Board members David Sickel and James Standerford noted the difficulty in predicting the expenses in the Jail as the population of the Jail changes daily.
The expenses must be covered by the unencumbered budget amounts of those departments who did not exceed the budgeted allotment for this fiscal year and approved by a resolution adopted by the County Board.
Commissioners set a public hearing for 9:15 a-m on Tuesday, July 14, for the purpose of receiving public comments regarding the idea of Richardson County being designated as a Livestock Friendly County. The County must meet the program criteria as established by the Director of Agriculture of the State of Nebraska.
Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert updated Commissioners on road and bridge projects. He noted a problem has been found on the recent asphalt project on the Dustless Highway north of Preston. Huppert is reviewing the issue with Constructors Inc. the contractor that performed the work to resolve the issue.
Commissioner Jim Davidson was absent from the meeting due to an airline delay on a trip.
