(KAIR)--The USD 409 Board of Education has welcomed a new member to replace George Ross Jr. who left in May to accept the Vice Principal position at Atchison Middle School.
During a special meeting Monday night, Shawn Crittendon was appointed to the board after a 5-1 vote by current members.
Superintendent Susan Myers says that Crittendon has extensive ties to the local community, as he “has children that will be attending our schools. He is a member of the community, he is a graduate of Atchison High School. He works for the Juvenile Justice Authority in both Leavenworth and Atchison Counties. He has quite a bit of knowledge of students in terms of kids, and knowledge of our school system having been through there. His mom and dad worked for the school system in the past and have retired from that. So he is an Atchison person through and through.”
Crittendon was one of three applicants who were vying for Ross' position.
