(KAIR)--A former Benedictine College assistant wrestling coach, who received approximately nine pounds of marijuana in the mail, has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for the crime.
25-year-old Michael Vassar appeared in Atchison County District Court Monday afternoon to learn his fate. He told Judge Martin Asher that he was sorry for what he had done, and had simply made a mistake when he found himself associating with the wrong kind of people. Asher then sentenced him to twenty-two months in prison on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Upon his release, Vassar will be placed on supervised probation for two years.
Vassar was arrested in September of last year after a joint investigation conducted by the Atchison Police Department and the United States Postal Inspector's Office.
