(KNZA)--The discovery of a stolen van in Brown County leads to the arrest of a Dawson, Nebraska man on felony charges related to the crime.
Taken into custody on a Nemaha County, Kansas warrant for felony theft is 48-year-old Michael Mitchell.
Sabetha Police Chief Robert Wahwasuck says the van, owned by a Sabetha resident, was discovered wrecked and abandoned on 246th Road near Morrill by the Brown County Sheriff's Office in late February.
His office launched an investigation and used a DNA sample from the deployed airbag as well as one taken from Mitchell, who was a suspect in the case. The two samples matched, and led to the issuance of the warrant.
Mitchell was located and arrested Friday but has since been released from the Nemaha County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
