MO Governor Declares State of Emergency
06/18/2015

Governor Nixon

(AP)--  Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency as a tropical depression moves northward through the region, dumping heavy rain and causing flooding in some parts of the state.

Many areas of Missouri have gotten several inches of rain over the past week, and the tropical depression is expected to dump more on the state through Friday night.

Nixon has activated the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan, which helps state agencies coordinate more directly with local jurisdictions on emergency services.

The Missouri River crested at several spots on Thursday, including Hermann in eastern Missouri. The Mississippi River is expected to reach major flood stage in Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau next week.
